If you`ve heard lots buzz and hype surrounding this next-generation Internet protocol, but aren`t sure how it impacts you or what you can do with it, this is the course for you. We`ll cover basic IPv6 concepts, like prefixes and stateless addressing, and address practical uses for the protocol right now in 2015.

Learning Objectives:
  • Describe the differences between IPv4 and IPv6
  • Explain important IPv6 concepts like stateless addressing, router advertisements, prefix lengths, etc.
  • Set up a simple dual-stack network
  • Set up a simple V6-only network
  • Inform others of where to go for IPv6 resources and implementation

In-class lab work will be performed via remote access to individual, per-student virtual machines. BYOD will not be supported for this course.

Prerequisites:
  • Entry-level knowledge of IPv4 networking (address classes, subnetting, routes, DHCP, etc.)
  • Minimal command-line/terminal skills on Windows/*nix systems
