A blog defines the way sites maintain their rolling newsfeed, which is consistent upon frequently updated information primarily focusing on a single topic. You will activate your FREE VCU WordPress account in class (if you have not done so already) and be introduced to the WordPress administrative dashboard - its tools and administrative settings - in addition to features and functionality. We will also learn what how to start one`s blog, what is a post, the fundamentals to writing captivating content and catchy headlines. Please, note that there are a variety of default themes available; however, we will be using just one as an example in class for both workshops.

Learning Objectives:

After the completion of this workshop the student will:
  • Show how to activate their FREE VCU WordPress account
  • Understanding the administrative settings
  • Apply customization to their site using features such as: themes and widgets
  • Identify suitable images to upload, edit, and save into their Media Library
  • Categorize and create links
  • Know how to post an entry, apply tags, and leave a comment
  • Define the steps needed to create a quality post and headline
  • Recognize their blogging goals and identify their blog`s purpose/theme
