SAS software is used for statistical analysis and reporting. This class introduces programming in SAS Version 9.4.

Banner Users - This course is probably NOT for you. Enterprise Guide, Web Report Studio, and integration of SAS with Banner will NOT be covered in this class.

Learning Objectives:

  • Navigate the SAS Windows interface
  • Create a SAS DATA step
  • Create SAS tables (data sets)
  • Read raw data using List Input
  • Learn SAS command syntax rules
  • Understand SAS steps and step boundaries
  • Learn SAS variable and table naming rules
  • Use basic SAS procedures
  • Use help within SAS
This course does not cover any statistical procedures or discuss how to interpret statistical results.

This course is taught using SAS 9.4 for Windows. Most of the material covered is applicable to using SAS on other platforms, such as UNIX or LINUX.

  • Prerequisites:

    Due to licensing restrictions, only VCU faculty, staff and students may attend this class. VCU Medical Center employees are ineligible to attend this class.

    Basic/working knowledge of Microsoft Windows.

    "The Little SAS Book: A Primer" is used as an occasional reference during this course. Copies will be provided for use in class but cannot be removed from the classroom. Attendees may purchase their own copy from Amazon or SAS Publishing. It is also available for free online viewing at Safari Books Online (sign in with your VCU email address and password).
