SAS software is used for statistical analysis and reporting. SAS File Management introduces reading data into SAS and working with multiple SAS tables.

Banner Users - This course is probably NOT for you. Enterprise Guide, Web Report Studio, and integration of SAS with Banner will NOT be covered in this class.

Learning Objectives:

  • Overview methods to import data from other sources
  • Read raw data using List Input, Column Input, and Formatted Input
  • Read existing SAS tables
  • Drop and keep variables
  • Modify SAS system options
  • Understand permanent libraries and the Work library
  • Create and use LIBREF library references
  • Sort SAS tables and use BY groups
  • Concatenate multiple SAS tables
  • Merge SAS tables
This course does not cover any statistical procedures or discuss how to interpret statistical results.

This course is taught using SAS 9.4 for Windows. Most of the material covered is applicable to using SAS on other platforms, such as UNIX or LINUX.

Due to licensing restrictions, only VCU faculty, staff and students may attend this class. VCU Medical Center employees are ineligible to attend this class.

Completion of SAS Overview class, SAS Overview [Online Equivalent] or equivalent experience.

"The Little SAS Book: A Primer" is used as an occasional reference during this course. Copies will be provided for use in class but cannot be removed from the classroom. Attendees may purchase their own copy from Amazon or SAS Publishing. It is also available for free online viewing at Safari Books Online (sign in with your VCU email address and password).
