The Animal Care and Use Program (ACUP/IACUC office) and Division of Animal Resources (DAR) in the Vice President's Office for Research and Innovation are hosting a training program entitled "New Animal User Orientation." This program is especially targeted to new VCU research staff, including students, postdocs, or volunteers, using animals in testing, research, and training. However, experienced or current research personnel are also encouraged to attend. This presentation is designed to introduce a basic overview of IACUC’s function and DAR`s operation, so new research staff can gain a better understanding of what to expect when they are working with animals at VCU. Highlighted topics include: - What to do when you are listed on an IACUC protocol - IACUC training requirements - ACUP policy requirements & reporting adverse events - Accessing DAR animal facilities - Navigating within a vivarium - Animal room health observations and reporting - Cage card requirements and how to use colored cage status cards - Animal Ordering - DAR services - How to use the DAR Ticketing System (DARTS) If you have any questions, please email to IACUC@VCU.EDU or contact Donna Tignor at dtignor@vcu.edu.
