The Animal Care and Use Program (ACUP/IACUC office) and Division of Animal Resources (DAR) in the Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation (OVPRI) are hosting a new researcher online training program titled "New Animal User Orientation". This training is designed to introduce an overview of the IACUC and DAR functions, requirements and operations so new or new-to-VCU research staff can gain a better understanding of what to expect when they are working with animals at VCU. This seminar is especially targeted to new VCU research staff, including students, postdocs, or volunteers, using animals in testing, research, and training. However, experienced or current research personnel are also encouraged to attend. Highlighted topics include: - Overview of the IACUC, ACUP and ACUPAC at VCU - IACUC Protocols, training requirements and what to do when you are listed on a protocol - Optional education opportunities for new and current researchers - ACUP policies and requirements - The what, when and how of reporting Animal Care and Use concerns and adverse/unexpected events - Accessing DAR animal facilities - Navigating within vivariums spaces - Researcher Business Code (RBC) and RFID Cage card requirements - Aseptic vs Non-aseptic Cage and handling techniques - Animal and room observations and health reporting - How to use colored cage status cards and rodent breeding (pup cards) - DAR services - Animal ordering - How to use the DAR Ticketing System (DARTS) - Resources and more!
