Ever wondered why it seems one person can eat anything they want and not gain a pound, while another person`s every indulgence shows up on the scale? It?s because of differences in metabolism, muscle mass and physical activity. Metabolism is the body?s process of converting food into energy that we need to survive and function on a day to day basis. This energy is used to stay warm, move around and keep vital organs functioning. A faster metabolism uses energy (calories) quickly, while a slower metabolism uses less energy to keep the body running. Knowing that, it`s tempting to throw up our hands and blame weight issues on a slow metabolism. But that?s not the end of the story. There are many factors that we can control. Join VCU HR and CommonHealth on June 20th to learn more about boosting metabolism and maintaining a healthy weigh.
