Top Hat is a student response system used in the classroom that allows instructors to rapidly collect and analyze student responses to questions posed during class. Hosted by a representative from Top Hat, this online training has been customized exclusively for VCU faculty. In this session faculty will learn the basic features of Top Hat and best practices for utilizing it in the classroom. Included in this session:

  • Create multiple-choice, free-response and other types of polling questions.
  • Launch discussions and questions, and get real-time feedback from each student, via their personal device (phone, tablet, laptop).
  • Instantly grade and analyze student performance and comprehension.
  • Synchronize the class roster and grades with VCU?s eLearning system (Blackboard)
  • Automatically verify if a student is physically present in class, and auto-assign grades for attendance and participation.

A link to access the course will be provided approximately 1 week prior to class.
